TOYBOX Presentation for Kinderlinks Manitoba Families

Last month, as a part of I love to read month, a team of TOYBOX researchers introduced parents, caregivers, and their pre-school age children to TOYBOX Manitoba with a presentation over Zoom.

After a brief introduction about who we are and why our organization is important for young families in Manitoba and across Canada, we had the children participate in three pre-planned activities for the presentation. Camryn, our literacy representative, had the children explore our activity called “I S-P-Y” where children tucked their socks into balls and threw them at letters and sounds they could find around their living space. Taylor, our numeracy friend for the presentation, facilitated an activity called “Fingers and Toes” where children counted their fingers and toes as well as their parents/caregivers or animals around the room! Finally, Wynonna, our environmental science researcher, guided the kids through our activity “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind” where children learned the importance of stretching and moving their bodies to have a strong, clear mind for the day. We wrapped up the presentation by emphasizing the value of parents and caregivers engaging in these activities with their children, and reminding everyone that all skill levels are welcome—there is always room to grow!

We had such a fun morning with these families and can’t wait to do it again!
