TOYBOX in Peguis First Nation!

October 2, 2024

The TOYBOX team had the wonderful opportunity to speak to three groups of caregivers and staff at The Peguis Family Centre Head Start Program. The drive to Peguis First Nation was beautiful, where we saw various animals, such as deer, coyotes, and an eagle. Once we arrived at the centre, we were warmly greeted by staff and the beautiful building!

The TOYBOX team kicked off the session by explaining the importance of early childhood learning through play. The team distributed playing cards, children’s books, and bookmarks to introduce TOYBOX through tangible educational objects that caregivers can use to transform any dull moment into a play-based learning opportunity!

The TOYBOX team also presented our website as a resource for caregivers to access educational strategies at any time. Our resources point out the importance of exposing children to letters and numbers by verbalizing various examples throughout the day.

The highlight of the session was an engaging brainstorming activity for strategies that the caregivers and staff wished to see in future TOYBOX strategies. The room was filled with buzzing ideas and themes that could be added! Caregivers and staff suggested creative ways to engage the child through hands-on learning experiences.

Overall, the day was an astounding success, giving caregivers and staff practical tools and insights on future strategies.

Thank you, Peguis Family Centre, for hosting us and to all the caregivers and staff who attended!
